The HP Storageworks MSL5026 SDLT220 Tape Library provides a solution for those looking to backup moderate amounts of data to the more robust storage media which is magnetic tape but is better suited to those needing to restore previously backed up data from Type IV DLT tapes created on other SDLT220 devices or on any DLT device that uses DLT type IV media.
With 26 tape bays, the HP Storageworks MSL5026 SDLT220 Tape Library features two Ultra160 SCSI2 connected SDLT220 Tape Drives allowing data operations on two tapes simultaneously with an auto-loader robot shuttling tapes between their bays, the tape drives and the integrated mailbox slot that allows processed tapes to be exchanged with new ones without interrupting the read/write operation.
In terms of capacity, the HP Storageworks MSL5026 SDLT220 Tape Library is able to store up to 5.7 Terabytes of compressed data or up to 2.86 Terabytes uncompressed across 26 type IV SDLT 220 tapes. While this seems fairly modest compared to other types of storage media, the advantage of magnetic tape is longevity. Type IV DLT tapes should retain data integrity for at least 30 years if kept in a suitable environment.
Connectivity for the tape drives and autoloader is via Ultra160 SCSI2. Hire Intelligence can provide a suitable PCIe or PCI-X Host Bus Adapter for rental along with the HP Storageworks MSL5026 SDLT220 Tape Library.
