Thirty-four Years of Keeping Australia Running on The Latest Rental Technology
And We're Only Getting Started
From a single storefront in Perth in 1992 to the largest technology rental fleet in Australia today, Hire Intelligence APAC has spent more than three decades making tech arrive when it’s needed, work when it’s plugged in, and disappear when it’s not.
In October 2025, the APAC business entered a new chapter under fresh management ownership.
Same obsession with service. New ambitions for where the business can go next.
It Began in Perth, With One Storefront and a Simple Idea
In February 1992, a small Perth business called Computer Rentals opened its doors on a simple premise:
businesses shouldn’t have to buy what they only need for a week and fill their storage rooms with obsolete hardware.
Four years later, in February 1996, Western Australian entrepreneur Tom Crage purchased the business and renamed it Hire Intelligence. Tom, who had previously held senior finance roles at KFC across Europe, the Middle East and Africa with Heublein International, brought the operational rigour to turn a single-outlet rental shop into a genuine national operator.
From one operation in Perth in 1992 to one of the largest players in the market – our growth came from reliable service, top brands, and low rates
By 1997 the business had opened on the east coast. By January 2002, Hire Intelligence was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. In 2013 Tom took Hire Intelligence back into private ownership. The business has remained privately held ever since.
Through the 2010s and into the 2020s it grew to operate across Australia, the UK, Ireland and New Zealand, servicing tens of thousands of customers with a fleet of thousands of pieces of IT and AV equipment.
Seven Moments That Shaped The Business
Computer Rentals
opens in Perth
A small West Australian operation begins renting desktop computers to local businesses. The entire fleet fits in a single storefront.
1992
Tom Crage acquires the Business
Renamed Hire Intelligence. Tom invests in the infrastructure and systems needed to scale beyond a single outlet and prepare for interstate and international expansion.
1993
East Coast expansion
Operations open in Sydney, Melbourne and beyond. The product range expands from computers into AV, communications and test-and-measure equipment.
1997
Listed on the ASX
Operations open in Sydney, Melbourne and beyond. The product range expands from computers into AV, communications and test-and-measurement equipment
2002
Taken private again
Tom Crage completed the buyback of outstanding shares and delisted Hire Intelligence from the ASX, returning the company to private ownership and freeing it to focus on long-term operational growth rather than quarterly reporting.
2013
Market leadership entrenched
Hire Intelligence becomes the largest short-term technology rental fleet in Australia, winning multi-year tenders including with the NSW Department of Education, and expanding its range into iPads, VR, servers, and large-format displays.
2020
Management buyout, APAC
Long-serving general manager Neil Levin and COO Scott Cole, joined by private equity duo Jesse Alderton and George Longbottom, acquired the Asia-Pacific business.
A new chapter begins.
2025
A New Chapter, Written By People Who've Already Been Here
23+ Years of Combined Tenure Before the Buyout
In October 2025, the APAC arm of Hire Intelligence was acquired in a management buyout led by two people who together had spent more than two decades inside the business.
Neil Levin, the General Manager who had driven the company for over twenty years, and Scott Cole, the COO whose expertise sits behind the company’s solutions engineering, were joined by investment partners Jesse Alderton and George Longbottom, bringing between them corporate finance, M&A and investment-management experience from roles at Anchorage Capital Partners and Adamantem Capital.
The handover from founder-era stewardship to the operators-turned-owners means something specific: the people who know the clients, the fleet, and the craft now also set the strategy. Nothing was learned from scratch. Everything can now move faster.
Meet Our Team
Leadership
Neil Levin
Chief Executive Officer
Off The Clock:
When Neil isn't schmoozing clients, he's chauffeuring his daughters around Sydney, a role that, by his own admission, requires more diplomatic skill than the day job.
Scott Cole
Chief Operating Officer
Off The Clock:
When Scott isn't deciding which piece of kit to add to the fleet next, he's mountain biking the trails around Newcastle, usually at a speed his family would prefer he didn't.
George Longbottom
Chief Financial Officer
Off The Clock:
When George isn't crunching the numbers, he's making the eight-hour drive to Mt Hotham in pursuit of the best of Australian skiing, and will happily argue the trip is absolutely worth it, every single time.
Chachi the Chihuahua
Chief Morale Officer
Off The Clock:
When Chachi isn’t swinging through the office like a wrecking ball, she’s passed out mid-shift in a warm spot - recharging for her next high-impact greeting.
Sales
Tevita Topui
Senior Manager - Education & Training
He later founded Eureka ICT, a boutique managed services business in Ballarat, before entering a joint venture that led to his appointment as Chief Operating Officer of Lateral Plains. He subsequently served as Chief Executive Officer of Lateral Plains Events, where he led large-scale, high-stakes deployments including statewide election rollouts and national technology programs.
Today, Tevita brings that hands-on, end-to-end experience across infrastructure, procurement and project delivery into his role at Hire Intelligence, where he focuses on building and delivering reliable, scalable education and assessment solutions.
Off The Clock:
Tevita is heavily involved in his community, serving as a Justice of the Peace, an Independent Third Person for the Office of the Public Advocate, and an Independent Person for Victoria Police. Outside of work, he’s a proud father of two teenagers who operate with the confidence of seasoned adults and the selective hearing of, well… teenagers. He’s also often referred to as the boss of the house (at least until his wife gets home).
Aaron Tan
Senior National Account Manager
Off The Clock:
When Aaron isn’t looking after clients, he’s out hiking with his staffy, heading off on motorcycle camping adventures, or enjoying the outdoors with his family.
Deb Dutta
Senior Account Manager
She also enjoys registration (“rego”) clients, guiding them through the event lifecycle, clarifying requirements, and ensuring their participants have a smooth and seamless experience from sign up to on site.
Off The Clock:
When Deb isn’t working, she is exploring the inner foodie- hunting for cafes, restaurants and hidden gems to try. She loves to unwind with a paintbrush in hand, her preferred way tap into her creative side. Whether it’s experimenting with food or with colours on canvas, these passions help her stay balanced, inspired, and ready to bring fresh thinking back into her work.
Marko Pehcevski
Senior Account Manager
Off The Clock:
Marko’s downtime involves a careful juggle of mainlining espressos, getting out and about with his camera to practice his hobby, keeping up with Chelsea’s place in the Premier League, and trying to make a dent in his ‘Must Watch Movies’ list while parenting two young children (one a newborn), and failing at all of them.
Bryce Taylor
Account Manager
Off The Clock:
Bryce takes his Martial arts seriously, doing Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai. When he isn't closing deals, he's throwing elbows in the ring. The rest of his downtime goes to the PlayStation, usually mid-round in Call of Duty.
Kelly Wang
Inside Sales Rep
Off The Clock:
In her off time, you might catch her crocheting her next project.
Zac Bennett
Sales, Ops & Marketing Specialist
Having worked across multiple industries and roles, Zac operates like a bit of a unicorn - equally comfortable in front of clients, behind the scenes on delivery, or deep in process optimisation and project management. The result is a practical, end-to-end perspective on how to win work, deliver it well, and scale it sustainably.
Off The Clock:
When Zac isn’t working across projects, he’s low and slow at the smoker - perfecting multi award-winning pork ribs, experimenting with BBQ techniques, and fuelling the process with a borderline unhealthy coffee addiction.
